Gigspanner are on the road again including dates with Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin as The Gigspanner Big Band. Watch the new Perrine Nouvier video for Urban Reel and their entire Big Band set from Shrewsbury Folk Festival.

Newly Commissioned by the Scots Fiddle Festival, The Four Pillars is a multi-media experience and musical suite from Scottish musician Mike Vass which premieres on Friday 16th November at the Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh.

While on tour, Dublin-based singer Lisa O’Neill visited the childhood home of John Lennon in Liverpool. While there, Lisa, accompanied by two supporting musicians, performed the popular traditional ballad Leaving of Liverpool which is also our Song of the Day.

Our song of the Day comes from Paul Sartin, Benji Kirkpatrick and Saul Rose who collectively make up the English folk trio Faustus. Watch their new video for The Death of the Hart Royal a mythological tale in which The Lord of the Greenwood – Robin Hood – encounters a dying stag.

Following the sell-out success of the first ever Walton Folk Festival, another amazing lineup is set to light up the Riverhouse Barn on Saturday 4 May 2019 including False Lights, Daria Kulesh, Edgelarks, The Trials of Cato, Lukas Drinkwater and Hannah Ashcroft.

The award-winning trio, Besarabia, a group from Valencia, Spain have announced UK dates in November. They amalgamate the music they love; music from the Balkans, the Mediterranean and Klezmer, into a very personal, idiosyncratic style.

Our Tune of the Day is The Killavil Fancy a fabulous reel, performed here live in the street by Canadian foursome The Fretless while they were in Glasgow for Celtic Connections last winter. The tune also features on their brilliant album Live From the Art Farm.

Folk on Foot – which raced to No 1 in the iTunes music podcast chart on its launch day – will be back from October 19 and will feature Jon Boden, Seth Lakeman, Kerry Andrew, Fisherman’s Friends, Stick in the Wheel and Julie Fowlis.
