There is always something going on around the edges, a constant tension between comfort and disquiet. Tranquil as it may sometimes appear, this is nonetheless music for troubled times.

Tashi Dorji announces his new album, ‘low clouds hang, this land is on fire’, out January 30th on Drag City. He turns to the electric guitar for a “disarmingly gentle musical drift,” a major shift from his previous acoustic work. Watch the video for lead single “gathering,” directed by Robert Beatty, which exemplifies this new meditative and melancholy sound—a political “quiet fire” and an anthem for resistance.

The Wave Pictures will release their new album, Gained / Lost, on 27th February 2026 via new label Bella Union. They’ve shared the first single, “Alice,” a “swooning beauty” inspired by the dream journals of William Burroughs. The band says that if the song were a movie, it would have been directed by David Lynch.

On ‘Minnesota’, Trond Kallevåg is joined by a crack Norwegian trio: violinist Tuva Halse, drummer Gard Nilssen and double bassist Mats Eilertson. The album expertly balances jazz, folk, and ambient sounds, drawing inspiration from the Norwegian coast and the American Midwest. It’s a deft, creative, and playful recording, marked by mesmerising violin, intuitive interplay, and wonderfully dynamic soundscapes performed at the highest level. It’s also a joy to listen to.

Bristol-based artist Tamsin Elliott will release her anticipated second album, The Meeting Tree, on November 28th. Following her acclaimed debut FREY, which processed themes of chronic illness and environmental grief, this new collection shifts focus to celebrate connection, nature, and “everything which makes me feel alive.” Watch the video for “Lonely Jig,” her lead single, performed with her trio featuring Sid Goldsmith on cittern and Rowan Elliott on fiddle.

The Weather Station has released two new singles, “Airport” and “Only The Truth,” recorded during the sessions for their acclaimed Humanhood album. The release precedes an upcoming UK and European tour, which includes a special London performance at EartH Theatre with a string quartet on November 21st.

Midlake’s “A Bridge to Far,” their sixth album, is a career highlight of 26 years. The record stands as their most consistent and assured yet, exploring deep themes of hope, change, and renewal. This deeply affecting release blends pastoral folk and soft psychedelia, achieving a spontaneous and grounded groove that is arguably the band’s best work.
