Michael Kiwanuka takes classic raw soul and country blues elements and transforms them with some clever modern arrangements. If it wasn’t for the more modern stylish embellishments and arrangements I’d swear I was listening to an old legend, you can hear the essence of the likes of Otis Reading and Marvin Gaye, brilliant!

Well it is the Bank Holiday and the sun is shining, at intervals admittedly, so I thought I’d dig back for a suitable tune and came up with this Belle and Sebastian one. I also stumbled across this great animation video that was drawn and directed by Nicole Benz.

Andrew Vladeck of New York City is releasing not only his EP Passing Knowledge this spring, but a book by the same title. It is also the first edition of the Pocket Songster Series, paying homage to the Pocket Poet Series of San Francisco and through which Beat poet Allen Ginsberg’s works were printed.
