Rose Connolly aka RÓIS (pronounced ‘rawsh’) is a composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist from County Fermanagh. Her latest EP, MO LÉAN (October 2024), offered a reimagining of, the pre-Christian tradition of ‘keening’. Christian Wethered’s review, described it as a masterful album– with incantatory soundscapes that leave you for dead.
Compared to the likes of Meredith Monk and the mind-bending creations of Hatis Noit, RÓIS is an artist whose direction is impossible to predict. As Christian notes: “She could go anywhere with this”, her latest single proving his point.
RÓIS has unveiled her bold new single and video, Did ye ever get The Ride at The Wake House? The video, directed by Adam O’reilly, also a dance artist, features Alex Vostokova, a dance artist and emerging choreographer who made her CoisCéim (a hugely creative sustainable dance theatre) debut in David Bolger’s PALIMPSEST in 2024.
Delivering a shockwave that reverberates across a tranquil Irish landscape, it is not without it moments of humour.
