Bitchin Bajas are giving their Isle Peaks EP a proper release. The Chicago trio — Cooper Crain, Rob Frye and Dan Quinlivan — first put the two-track EP out as a Qobuz exclusive earlier this year, and now it lands everywhere on August 28th via Drag City, on 12″ vinyl, cassette and digital.
The physical formats come with a catch worth having: the 12″ and cassette add Watch Your Step, a track that isn’t on the Qobuz version or any digital platform. That makes three cuts in all, sitting between krautrock and new age. The title track is out now.
Isle Peaks was pulled from the sessions for last year’s Inland See, the group’s tenth album, and cut to analogue tape — 2″ multitrack, mixed to ½” 2-track. Into that the band feed the electro-acoustic textures they keep coming back to: sampled kalimba, field recordings and autoharp.
Alongside the EP, Bajas have added a fresh run of US dates and expanded their previously announced European leg. The US shows open in California with their long-time collaborators Natural Information Society and support from Jill Fraser, before a September stretch through the South and Midwest. October and November take them across the UK and into Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
