Sourdure has shared Le Pebre — pepper in Occitan — the first single from forthcoming album Outredore, out September 18th, 2026 via Pagans and Murailles Music. The track features Lisà Langlois (La Crue, Bòsc).
Behind Sourdure is Ernest Bergez, based in Thiers in central France. Over the past decade he has worked the fringes of overlooked sonic worlds, pairing a spirit of experimentation with a personal, DIY approach to traditional forms. KLOF readers will know him from his solo work and from the four-piece group project Sourdurent, whose 2023 album L’Herbe De Détourne we reviewed as a bold and deeply rewarding venture. Sourdure has also turned up across our KLOF Mix series and Folk Show.
The new songs are shaped within the traditional music of the Massif Central, but draw freely on elements of Eastern musical vocabularies — an invitation, in the label’s words, to build unexpected bridges between distant sound worlds. Bergez’s voice is more stripped-back than ever here, and the songs weave intimate and political themes into what’s described as a kind of nova cançon occitana that has traded folk guitars for electronic machinery.
“Le Pebre” itself works across enigmatic verses, a slow-burning and timely heatwave anthem:
When the new summer burns over secret coves and the air begins to sweat, the pepper splits open and turns the senses upside down.
Across three enigmatic verses, this slow-burning heatwave anthem traces a few minuet steps over a minimalist electronic hopscotch. A small, hallucinatory sensory revolution.
