Most of this week’s Mixtape looks back at the past, although there are a few new tunes: one from Juni Habel‘s new album Evergreen In Your Mind, a new tune from the Goblin Band, and a track you may not have yet heard from Natalie Wildgoose‘s forthcoming EP Rural Hours. Natalie is also our latest Off the Shelf Guest – read that feature here.
As for the past, from the not so distant we have: Bridget Hayden and The Apparitions, North Carolina’s Weirs (from last year’s Diamond Grove), and Matthew Broadley’s 2025 debut as Greet. Further back we have Alasdair Roberts‘ full-band offering The Amber Gatherers (2007), Sir Richard Bishop‘s Tangier Sessions (2015), and further still – to 1966 – an album released by Folkways Records: Classical Music of Iran, Vol. 2: The Dastgah Systems, which continues the presentation of classical Persian music featured in Classical Music of Iran, Vol. 1, compiled in 1966 by Ella Zonis. There’s a few more surprises thrown in. The photo on the cover of this week’s Mixtape was taken in Teheran in 1934.
