Frog are not slowing down. On April 17th, the New York band will release their eighth studio album, Frog for Sale, via Audio Antihero — their third record in just fourteen months, following the acclaimed 1000 Variations on the Same Song and its companion album The Count.
When we reviewed 1000 Variations last year, we called frontman Daniel Bateman “one of the finest, most singularly gifted songwriters in the world.” Since then, the brothers Bateman have only gathered momentum, with The Count finding admirers in Wednesday, Friendship, Dry Cleaning, and MJ Lenderman.
“This is an album about how money sometimes gets in the way of love,” says Daniel. The album’s cover — a childhood photograph of Daniel holding baby brother Steve — offers a tender counterpoint to the band’s relentless forward motion.
Lead single Je Ne Sais Pas is already out, a fast-talking tumble of wordplay and self-laceration that channels the restless, genre-hopping energy Frog have made their own.
Frog for Sale will be accompanied by a run of US dates through Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington, Nashville, Chicago, Cleveland, Lancaster, and Boston. The band also return to the UK in September for the first time since 2016. Co-founder Tom White, the original drummer who later moved to bass, joins the live lineup for these shows.
