White Fence is releasing a new album, Orange, on April 24th via Drag City. The record marks Tim Presley‘s first White Fence release in seven years and was produced by Ty Segall at his Harmonizer II studio. Below, watch the video for the project’s lead single, Your Eyes, directed by Agathe Rousselle.
Your Eyes opens with gut-punching snare hits before rolling into sunny guitar strums that build toward a melodic summit. The power chorus arrives after Presley muses, “I’m a terror for your praise / Know I staggered after you,” his delivery punkish and direct. Rousselle’s monochrome video captures Presley in sharp contrast, his eyes gleaming back at the camera.
In a statement about the album, Presley offers: “Love/loss, addiction/rehabilitation, and a good long look in the mirror (by way of a shop window reflection in San Francisco). But also the absurdity of life….. I wanted to sing my little heart out. Sing life.”
Orange showcases sharpened rock sonics that give Presley room to sing across the album’s jagged, jittery pop songs. Segall, who also produced 2014’s For the Recently Found Innocent, plays drums alongside production duties, while Alice Sandahl contributes keys and Dylan Hadley appears on drums for two tracks. Together they create an uncrowded space for Presley’s rock and balladry, the album swiveling through genre like a space-age Kinks.
The seven-year gap since White Fence’s last record makes Orange feel all the more anticipated, arriving in full on April 24th.
