Following her lead single and video ‘Never Left Me‘, North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Natalie Jane Hill has shared her latest single, “Colors,” providing a vibrant yet grounded look at her upcoming third album, Hopeful Woman. Arriving March 6, 2026, via Dear Life Records, the album marks a significant evolution for the Texas native, blending her folk-primitive guitar style with an expanded, live-recorded ensemble.
“Colors” serves as a tender exploration of early romance. Hill describes the track as a “love song—specifically about the beginning period of falling in love,” though it carries a characteristic wisdom. As Hill explains:
“It’s also about having a better understanding on personal boundaries and not losing yourself entirely in the potential of something new. It’s being able to enjoy the colorfulness of it, while leaving space for the mystery, too.”
The album was recorded live in two distinct locations—Lockhart, Texas, and Western North Carolina—capturing the dual essence of Hill’s past and present homes. In the accompanying album notes, musician Nathan Salsburg describes the record as a collection of “slender songs, life-sized,” where “tumult and adaptation and growth are metabolized through a body’s gentle actions.”
Multi-instrumentalist Mat Davidson (Twain) provides “preternatural grace” throughout the record, contributing pedal steel, pastoral flute, and fiddles that frame Hill’s voice—a voice Salsburg likens to the sturdiness of Karen Dalton and the ethereal quality of Hope Sandoval.
