After more than a decade away from the spotlight, Danish singer-songwriter Majke Voss—formerly known as the critically acclaimed Broken Twin—has finally returned. Released today on Broken Records, her new single “Coming Down” marks a pivotal rebranding and a bold creative rebirth for an artist who once captivated the industry with her stark, shiver-inducing minimalism.
Voss first made waves in 2014 with her debut album May (released via Anti- Records), earning glowing comparisons to the likes of Cat Power and praise from NME as “the most arrestingly beautiful songwriter we’ve heard in aeons.” Despite the acclaim, Voss retreated from the public eye, spending recent years studying composition at Copenhagen’s conservatoire.
“Coming Down” bridges the gap between her “dreamy folk” origins and a more intentional, raw maturity. The track is built on an understated bed of plucks and bowed swells, allowing Voss’s voice to take centre stage against a backdrop of piano, bass, and violin.
Accompanied by a visualiser, Voss shared the following on the inspiration behind the song:
“‘Coming Down’ is a song I wrote in 2025. It quickly developed with the band when we were rehearsing, so I wanted to capture that rehearsal energy. It ended up being a combination of a lose rehearsal memo and recording sessions in each of our rehearsal spaces, with the noises and bleed that come with it, which felt right to keep. I feel there is a sense of longing in this song – it’s reaching towards something.”
