Iron & Wine, the celebrated project of multi-instrumentalist Sam Beam, has revealed “Roses,” the enchanting third single from his upcoming eighth studio album, Hen’s Teeth. Arriving February 27th via Sub Pop, the track is accompanied by a stunning, hand-drawn animated video directed and edited by Gaia Alari. The visual narrative follows two characters through a transformative landscape of dark rivers and celestial gardens, perfectly mirroring the song’s ethereal folk textures.
While Hen’s Teeth serves as a sibling record to 2024’s Grammy-nominated Light Verse, it carries its own distinct atmosphere. The album was born from sessions in the Los Angeles foothills with engineer Dave Way and features a cast of familiar collaborators including Sebastian Steinberg and David Garza. Notably, the record introduces fresh vocal dynamics; the Grammy-winning trio I’m With Her contributes harmonies to two tracks, while Beam’s daughter, Arden Beam, makes her recording debut, lending a poignant, personal texture to “Roses” and three other songs.
The title Hen’s Teeth captures the album’s accidental nature. Beam describes the collection as an “impossible thing” that felt like a gift—something that shouldn’t exist but does. This sense of creative wonder permeates the lead-up to the album’s release, which will be followed immediately by an international tour. Performances begin February 28th in Australia and New Zealand, with an extensive run of headline dates scheduled across North America throughout April, May, and October.
