Today, January 9, 2026, Father John Misty continues his streak of cinematic folk-rock with the official release of his new single, “The Old Law,” out now via Sub Pop. While the title is new to digital streaming services, the track is already a favourite among the songwriter’s dedicated fanbase; it was previously known as “God’s Trash” when it debuted during his live performances in the fall of 2024. Produced by Josh Tillman and Drew Erickson, and mixed at the legendary Fivestar Studios by Jonathan Wilson and Michael Harris, the track serves as a hauntingly polished preview of his upcoming international tour in support of the album Mahashmashana.

Fans across the Western US can catch Tillman starting March 23rd in Ventura, with the run featuring highly anticipated two-night residencies at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre and Seattle’s Paramount Theatre. Following his stateside dates, Father John Misty heads to the UK and Europe this June. A major highlight of the summer schedule is his appearance at the London Lido festival on June 12th, where he will share the stage with CMAT and Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory. From the intimate venues of California to the massive festival stages of Primavera and Northside, “The Old Law” is set to be a cornerstone of this year’s live set.
