Fresh off a successful North American run supporting folk supergroup I’m With Her, multi-award-winning Irish duo Ye Vagabonds are back with a stirring new offering. Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn have unveiled “The Flood,” the second single from their highly anticipated upcoming album, All Tied Together, set for release on January 30th, 2026, via Rough Trade’s River Lea label (pre-order: https://yevagabonds.ffm.to/alltiedtogether).
Following the album’s lead single “On Sitric Road,” this new track offers a shift in energy. “The Flood” is described as an upbeat, fiddle-propelled window into a lively but doomed scene from the brothers’ early days in Dublin—specifically, a squatters’ community brought to vivid life through song.
The track captures the raw immediacy that Ye Vagabonds are celebrated for. It was recorded completely live in a house in Galway under the guidance of acclaimed producer Philip Weinrobe (Big Thief, Adrianne Lenker). The recording features a stellar ensemble, including Shahzad Ismaily and labelmate Sam Amidon, adding rich textures to the brothers’ signature harmonies.
Accompanying the single is a striking music video directed by Ellius Grace (known for work with Lankum and Lisa O’Neill). The visual is a “one-take” feat, featuring dancer Jimmy Southward. It serves as a poignant commentary on the urban housing crisis, blending movement with a stark narrative.
Director Ellius Grace provided a comprehensive insight into the collaboration:
“When Brían and Diarmuid got in touch about making music videos for their new album I couldn’t say no. Their music is so evocative and beautiful, and this new album feels incredibly personal to them. It was an added bonus to hear that the guys had dancer Jimmy Southward on board, who I had seen on stage a number of times. This became a beautiful collaboration between all four of us, taking Brían and Diarmuid’s ideas and translating them into loose stories which Jimmy then brought to life through his performance.
Brían and Diarmuid also wanted to shoot these videos in a single take to capture a feeling of immediacy or reality. This became a great challenge where myself and the crew had to choreograph ourselves along with Jimmy to land in the right places and have everything work the way it should.
The Flood is a song about the housing crisis, and how we live in urban spaces that can sometimes feel prohibitive and impossible to survive in. Jimmy takes on the character of a businessman with a supposedly successful job, though he’s still living in a tent in Phoenix Park. He gets up and goes to work, smiling and waving at passersby, but something moves him as he goes. His body convulses and he becomes more and more out of control. The briefcase is full of random objects and he throws that away eventually along with his phone, stripping away the veneer of a happy worker and becoming free. The more he succumbs to the movement and supposed madness, the happier he becomes. He doesn’t need to pretend any more.”
All Tied Together
The upcoming album promises to be a cinematic collection, with Diarmuid Mac Gloinn noting that “All these songs have addresses. They’re about specific locations and specific people.” Influenced by writers such as George Saunders and Claire Keegan, the record explores themes of home—both the physical spaces we fight for and the inner refuge we seek.
