New York City’s musical shapeshifter Wendy Eisenberg returns today with “Will You Dare,” a track that trades avant-garde complexity for the sun-drenched directness of early 1970s folk. Out now via Joyful Noise Recordings, the single offers a tender yet sharp look at the risks of romance through Eisenberg’s characteristically incisive lens.
Following the release of the standalone single “I Don’t Miss You,” this new track highlights Eisenberg’s staggering versatility. While their recent acclaimed LP, Viewfinder, explored sprawling jazz improvisation and complex song cycles, “Will You Dare” finds profound depth in simplicity. Eisenberg describes the track as a meditation on the passage of time, posing the ultimate question: “Do you dive into the impossibility of true love, be shameless, even though if you’re doing it right it’ll rip you to shreds?”
This pivot to stripped-back songwriting underscores why Eisenberg is considered one of NYC’s most vital guitarists. Known for traversing jazz, noise, and avant-rock with groups like Editrix and the Bill Orcutt Guitar Quartet, Eisenberg proves here that their eclecticism is a genuine artistic essence rather than a gimmick.
