London’s “Queer Trad-Folk Quartet” Goblin Band have shared their new single, ‘Rosin The Beau’, alongside a live video performance (watch below). The track, released today (4th November), is the latest preview of their upcoming debut album, ‘A Loaf of Wax (Live at MOTH club)’. The album is set for release next week on 14th November via Broadside Hacks Recordings.
Goblin Band have been steadily growing as cult favourites on the UK traditional folk circuit. The group, a collection of queer musicians based around the Hobgoblin Music shop in central London, is inspired as much by medieval and early music as by folk traditions. They have set their stall on “re-energising timeless, much-journeyed songs for an ever-growing new community of young folk enthusiasts”.
There is a specific reason the band’s anticipated debut is a live recording. According to their press release, “It’s onstage that the foursome fire on every cylinder”. The live format is where the “euphoric power of their traditional folk performance hits with maximum impact” and the “electric connection” with their community is “felt most viscerally”.
The new single, described as the “quintessential English drinking song”, highlights this spirit. “‘Rosin The Beau’ calls us to raise a glass for the dead, and to make merry rather than weep,” the band says.

This release follows significant acclaim from outlets like The Quietus and The Guardian, which praised their “rowdy, flamboyant folk” and gave them a ‘Folk album of the Month’ distinction. KLOF Mag wrote, “Sounding like a 17th-century punk band, they deliver music in its raw, merry-making form intended”.
