Brighton trio Plantoid are gearing up for the release of their sophomore album, FLARE, due out January 30th via Bella Union. Following the blistering lead single “Dozer,” the stewards of the UK’s progressive scene have shared their second offering, “Good For You,” a captivating six-minute track that showcases their experimental evolution.
“Good For You” acts as a bridge between the band’s math-rock origins and their expanded horizons, embracing their progressive roots while pushing their sound forward. Drummer Louis Bradshaw explains the shift: “We wanted to slightly redefine what we were doing—it’s less directly proggy.” The track is described by the band as a “journey of rebirth and processing emotions,” reflecting a conscious effort to “sit in the music for a while” and develop ideas, as vocalist/guitarist Chloe Spence notes.
The single is accompanied by a beautifully psychedelic and mysterious video from regular collaborator Cali Titmas. Filmed in the south-west USA, the visual follows a “being” emerging from another world to discover life on earth as a “newborn.”
FLARE promises to retain the core DNA that made their debut Terrapath a success—heavy licks, tempo changes, and complex progressions—but with new influences like shoegaze and vocal-forward rock-pop. Having honed their craft with producer Nathan Ridley and after a creative retreat in Wales, Plantoid is ready to cement their status and excite old and new listeners alike.
