On Junior Brother‘s latest album, The End (reviewed here), he channels the creeping madness of lockdown on ‘Week End‘, on which he sings ‘There is no weekend, just days and days and days.’ According to the County Kerry-born, Dublin-based singer-songwriter, we have his girlfriend to thank for the line:
“Inspired by long, quarantined trips away from my loved one, in my parent’s house with nothing to do but stay inside and fend off madness. This was attempted by trying out joy, in order to laugh it all away. The Chorus’ main lyric, “There is no week end, just days and days and days” was lifted entirely from a quote my girlfriend said at this time, which perfectly summed up those strange, locked-down days.” JB
The accompanying video, directed by Ellius Grace, succeeds in transforming those strange, locked-down days into stunning visuals that make you feel the isolation closing in.
