Say hello to Sunday Mourners, the new four-piece on Beachwood Sparks’ Curation Records, who are dropping their debut album, ‘A-Rhythym Absolute,’ on January 16th. Formed during the 2020 quarantine by four college friends from across the US, Sunday Mourners is a band whose diverse backgrounds have shaped a sound that is uniquely their own—a thrilling fusion of Art-Punk restraint and raw, primal energy.
The band are: Quinn Robinson (Vocals/Guitar) from Stamford, CT, Z Long (Drums) from Denver, CO, & Max Pugh (Guitar) & Casey Hoerman (Bass) from St. Louis, Missouri.
Sunday Mourners have forged a sound that’s simultaneously restless and refined. While echoes of Television or Wire exist in their effortless, angular grooves, the band matches that art-rock pedigree with a playful melodic sensibility. The core setup is classic rock, but the delivery is anything but staid. Vocalist Quinn anchors the show with strong, characterful stories, leading a tuneful and punchy attack.
Their latest single, ‘When Your Dreams Come True,’ offers a perfect entry point. Quinn explains the track tackles the “claustrophobia brought on by vastness,” a weary reflection on turning 23 and the sudden, heavy weight of adulthood. The band pushed for a more minimal sound, resulting in a rigid groove and nervous intensity that makes the song instantly compelling.
