Heaven For Real are back with “Improvement,” the latest single and video from their upcoming album, Who Died & Made You The Dream?, set for release on November 7, 2025 (Mint Records). The Halifax/Vancouver duo of Mark and J. Scott Grundy continues to sharpen their “static-to-signal transmissions,” crafting a sound that echoes the spontaneous energy of ’80s and ’90s indie scenes while guiding the listener through a precisely crafted universe.
The new track, featuring drums and vocals from Laura Jeffery (Laughing, Fountain), channels the discord of modern life. Heaven For Real says the song uses the frustration of road rage to express a more profound desire for personal growth—namely, becoming less late and a better listener—while acknowledging the absurdity of trying to “better ourselves” in a world seemingly on the brink of collapse.
Fittingly, the accompanying video focuses on process and learning. Conceived alongside the highly active dancer Jeffery, the video features a dance being learned in full on screen for the duration, contrasting with other “life skills” being picked up. It’s a celebratory embrace of effort and the ongoing, often clumsy, journey toward “improvement.”
Who Died & Made You The Dream? was recorded in Victoria, BC, with Austin Tufts (Braids, Marci) and mixed by Jay Arner. The album boasts a host of Canadian collaborators, including: Jen Yakamovich (Wallgrin, Troll Dolly), Laura Jeffery (Laughing, Fountain), Olivia Scriven (Cute Whore, La Baie Dorée) and Mark Sutherland (Doohickey Cubicle), who add motion and multiplicity to the Grundys’ distinctive sound.
