Norwegian guitarist and composer Trond Kallevåg has unveiled the first single from his upcoming album Minnesota, a poignant piece titled “Twins of Træna.” Released today, the single is an instrumental narrative driven by Kallevåg’s signature dreamy pedal steel guitar and draws inspiration from a collection of historical black-and-white photographs discovered during an artist residency on the remote island of Træna. These images, captured by local photographer Alma Sandøy in the early 1900s, feature an eerie symmetry of twins, prompting Kallevåg to transform their unfinished story into sound.
The track sets the stage for the full album, which is scheduled for release on October 24, 2025, on Hubro. Minnesota explores themes of emigration and a distinctly Norwegian yearning for the West. For this project, Kallevåg is joined by three of Norway’s most acclaimed musicians: violinist Tuva Halse, double bassist Mats Eilertsen, and drummer Gard Nilssen. The group masterfully weaves together elements of Western Norwegian coastal culture, American folk, ambient, and modern jazz, creating a rich, storytelling soundscape that continues Kallevåg’s unique and critically celebrated musical journey.
The album Minnesota will be released on October 24, 2025, on Hubro
