Fresh off the heels of their highly acclaimed new album, The Heat Warps, Modern Nature have shared a short film that offers an intimate look at its creation. Titled “Take Our Chances,” the 20-minute film arrives just ahead of the band’s UK tour, which kicks off in Blackpool next Saturday (September 27th).
Filmed by collaborator Michael Stasiak, the documentary is a fly-on-the-wall account of the band’s recording process in November 2024. Viewers are invited to witness how the band, led by songwriter Jack Cooper, brought their fourth album to life.
Cooper explains, “The main aim when I thought about the recording of this record was for it to be a document of four people playing in a room; to capture the discrepancies and movement in tone, volume, dynamics, rhythm and pitch when four humans play together. We decided to have ten days together; two days rehearsing between my house and Jim’s studio. Two days of shows in Cambridge and London. Four days in the studio recording. My friend Michael Stasiak is a brilliant photographer and short film maker. He has a unique eye for detail and more importantly, he’s one of the gang. When I told him about my plan, he booked a plane ticket and decided to make a film about our project. His presence and input ended up being an essential element of the music, so this documentary is as much about him, as it is us.”
