Icelandic singer-songwriter Arny Margret is to release an expanded version of her latest album, I Miss You, I Do, released in March this year. The deluxe ‘I Miss You, I Do: The Sjáumst Edition’ will be released on November 21st via One Little Independent Records and features four new, intimate recordings. Stripping back the rich Americana palette of the original, Arny presents three piano-led reinterpretations of her tracks: ‘I Miss You, I Do,’ ‘Born in Spring,’ and ‘Took the Train ’til the End.’
“I wanted to try make a few piano versions of some of the songs from the album,” Arny explains. “I then realised I wanted to do a bit more, make it sound different but still like me. So that’s what I did. I had been in touch with Nanna from Of Monsters and Men a few times and she introduced me to Bjarni, who recorded these songs with me at their studio here in Iceland. It was really fun to record these, I played every instrument and had the full control over every sound. These songs are fully produced by me with the help of Bjarni Þór Jensson, which I’m really proud of.”
Additionally, the album includes the new instrumental composition, ‘Sjáumst,’ a wordless journey that serves as a gentle farewell to this creative chapter. Talking about Sjáumst, Arny shared:
“The last song is an instrumental I recorded myself on a 4-track tape recorder at Hljóðriti a while back. I added some vocals to make it make sense in my head because I’m a very lyric driven person. This was so different to do and make, but I love it. It was something that just happened one day when I sat by the piano. I called it Sjáumst or ‘see ya’ in Icelandic, it can also mean ‘to be seen’, which I feel fits well with the whole theme of the album. ‘Sjáumst’ feels like a good end and kind of a little goodbye to this project that taught me so much.”
In a showcase of this new, intimate direction, Arny has also shared a live video for ‘Born in Spring,’ filmed at Iceland’s Salurinn concert hall. While the live session is guitar-led, it also captures something of the raw, vulnerable essence of the new versions, with Arny’s haunting vocals taking centre stage. The video, which she co-directed, also creates a visually warm and personal atmosphere, reflecting her creative control over this project.
Arny’s decision to self-produce these new recordings, with assistance from Bjarni Þór Jensson, highlights her artistic growth and confidence. This deluxe edition closes a significant chapter for Arny, offering a profound and tender reflection on the songs that have helped define her journey.
As well as helping to bring ‘I Miss You, I Do: The Sjáumst Edition’ to life, Of Monsters and Men also invited Arny to support them on their upcoming October and November US tour (dates below).
