North Louisiana’s powerhouse singer/songwriter Robert Finley has officially announced his eagerly awaited new album, Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya. The record, produced by longtime collaborator Dan Auerbach, is set to arrive via Easy Eye Sound on Friday, October 10th. This fourth outing on Auerbach’s label sees the Bernice native delving deep into the sacred sounds of gospel, blending them with his celebrated mix of blues, soul, and R&B.
The first taste of the project comes with the new single, “Helping Hand,” a deep Gospel-groove with a great funky bass line that’s impossible to resist. Featuring Finley’s daughter, Christy Johnson, on backing vocals, check out the accompanying music video, directed by Tim Hardiman. “Making a gospel record was the first thing I ever wanted to do,” Finley states. “I’ve had at least one gospel song on each album… some of those people were in tears.”
Incredibly, Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya was improvised and tracked in a single, furiously creative day at Easy Eye Sound Studios. Finley was backed by an all-star band featuring Auerbach, guitarist Barrie Cadogan, and drummer Malcolm Catto. This spontaneous approach channelled Finley’s early days as a street performer. “Dan was like, ‘Okay, Robert. Sing something,’” Finley recalls. “The good Lord said, ‘If you open your mouth, I’ll speak for you.’”
Fans can catch Finley’s legendary live performance this autumn as he embarks on a European and UK tour. The tour includes a highly anticipated headline show at London’s Union Chapel on Friday, October 4th, before continuing with dates across France, Spain, and the Netherlands (full details: For complete details and ticket information, please visit robertfinleyofficial.com).
