To mark their 300th label release, Rochester, New York’s Carbon Records are releasing a compilation album on September 5th titled The Sun Is Not True. Some of the most recent releases from the album that have featured on KLOF Mag include releases by Eric Arn‘s fixe Idee, Liam Grant‘s Amoskeag and the excellent self-titled release from Liam Grant, Grayson McGuire, Devon Flaherty that Mike Gangloff described as being like “a fever dream at a fiddlers convention when you wake up sweating in your tent at 4 in the morning. And the music outside, you can’t tell if it’s 1 old time band or 3. All the songs are blending together and you can’t make out any of them.”
This new compilation features new and exclusive tracks by Liam Grant / Grayson McGuire / Trevor McKenzie, Rob Noyes, Spatulas, Will Veeder, Greymouth, Thurston Moore, murusonus (Mikel Dimmick of Pelt and RobV of Sound-O-Mat), David Nance, Holt Bodish (of Mordecai), Escalation (Bruce Russell and Peter Wright), Takeda (of Bardo Pond), Rock Candy (Emily Robb and Kryssi Battalene) and Ethan WL.

Grayson and I had the scoop that Trevor could do that sheiks style fiddling and would spend hours trying to intercept him down at Espresso News on this way to work. At the time, Grayson and I were recording everything with his grandma’s portable tape recorder, and this was one of the three recordings we ended up making with Trevor when our persistence finally paid off. In hindsight, it was sort of the early foundations for Prodigal Son and Grant / McGuire /Flaherty, including the first take of old country rock with the three of us, which we re-recorded several years later.
The album is limited to 516 copies; each copy comes in a silkscreened recycled jacket with a Riso printed double-sided insert including liner notes and a list of all 300 Carbon releases to date.
