Midlake have today announced their highly anticipated sixth studio album, “A Bridge To Far,” set for release on November 7th via Bella Union. This eagerly awaited return is heralded by the release of the album’s first single and video, “The Ghouls.” The track, born from a period of uncertainty about the band’s future, became the catalyst that reignited their shared purpose. Frontman Eric Pulido describes it as a response to the “temptation to demonize the realities or challenges that exist,” a defiant embrace of obstacles to create something extraordinary.
Produced by Sam Evian (Big Thief, Cass McCombs) at The Echo Lab in their hometown, the album is a profound meditation on hope as a human necessity. As Pulido notes, “To look beyond, above what is. We can all relate on many varying levels.” The recording process was reportedly instinctive and unforced, resulting in a sound that is both atmospheric and deeply grounded. Guest vocalists, including Madison Cunningham, Hannah Cohen, and Meg Lui, add rich emotional and textural layers.
“A Bridge To Far” promises a journey through themes of persistence and humility, with tracks like “The Calling” and “Days Gone By” offering a timeless perspective on personal struggle. The album, which Pulido says is less about external references and more about “sounding like us,” is a quiet triumph rooted in the band’s enduring connection. It’s a testament to their love for one another and the belief that something just out of reach is still worth pursuing.
