American musician and intermedia artist M. Sage has released a new single and video, “Wading the Plain,” from his upcoming album Tender / Wading. The album, set to be released on September 26, is described as a “pastoral kind of folk Kosmiche,” offering a serene, contemplative take on electro-acoustic music.
Recorded in the foothills of Colorado, Tender / Wading finds Sage returning to his roots, capturing field recordings and building compositions primarily with piano and clarinet. The album is a testament to the “radical softness” of coming home. “Wading the Plain” highlights this sound, with delicate touches of piano and clarinet that cut through a sprawling soundscape.
“‘Wading the Plain’ is a kind of excavation,” Sage says of the video, which he directed. “Your invitation gets you to the heart of it. Instead of a shovel, I used light. There is an object oriented ontology at the heart of this video. By gathering things and putting them into arrangements, they have a kind of congress that creates logic, and that logic may be beyond human in some ways.”
M. Sage has several upcoming US tour dates planned with and without Patrick Shiroshi (see below).
Tender / Wading will be released on September 26, 2025, in vinyl, Japanese import CD via Plancha, and digital editions.
