Swift on the heels of his 2024 debut solo album All Hits: Memories, Australian drummer extraordinaire Jim White has announced his second solo album, Inner Day, set for release on October 24th on Drag City. White’s deep rhythmic sensibility is once again at the forefront, but this time, he’s exploring new territory as a lyricist and vocalist. The title track is out today, accompanied by a new music video by Tran.
Inner Day finds White building on the expressive keyboard work of his first album, approaching the keys with the same intuitive feel he would a drum kit. He sings on two tracks, including the lead single, which marks the first time he’s ever written lyrics. The song, White explains, “is about veils and how the unconscious doesn’t follow the waking person’s clock. It doesn’t follow the external so-called laws of temporality and causality. Do you?”

This new musical vehicle comes forty years into a career defined by prolific collaboration with artists like Bill Callahan, Cat Power, and Ed Kuepper, as well as his celebrated work in bands like Dirty Three and Xylouris White. White teamed up again with co-producer Guy Picciotto to craft this hypnotic new collection of songs.
Fans will also get a chance to see White’s new venture live, as he and Picciotto have formed the Jim White Trio with Colleen Burke, with their first performance scheduled for September 5th in Switzerland.
