Carson McHone continues to build anticipation for her new album, Pentimento, with the release of the music video for her single, “Idiom.” The video offers a sneak peek into a larger artistic project that is set to premiere at the In the Soil Arts Festival in St. Catherines, Ontario, next month. Filmed by Daniel Romano, the video features a poignant dance routine choreographed by Allie Blumas, with lighting by theatre director Deanna Jones, which perfectly captures the song’s delicate yet expansive nature.
“Idiom” is described as an “intimate, interior epic” that blends folk with chamber pop and stirring harmonies. Her creative process for Pentimento was inspired by a range of experiences, from global crises to personal relationships, all documented in various forms—poems, letters, and paintings. The album itself was recorded over six days on an 8-track cassette recorder with a group of musicians, some of whom learned and performed songs live on the spot. This spontaneous, collaborative energy, McHone explains, contributed to the album’s unique sound, which includes “fortuitous feedback bass drone, and spontaneous laughter.” The “Idiom” video is a captivating glimpse into this remarkable and deeply personal artistic journey.
