Ahead of their new album You Won’t Remember This, indie outfit Tuxis Giant have shared the final single, “Days,” a fan-favourite now accompanied by a stunning animated music video. The track serves as a final, poignant glimpse into the world of the album, due out August 15th via Worry Bead Records.
Written during the slow, spiralling months of the pandemic, “Days” is a buoyant, two-minute ode to the liminal space between labour and leisure, grief and joy. The track fuses weary melancholy with a whimsical spirit, as frontperson Matt O’Connor sings over gentle guitars, “At the end of the day, I put my apron away / Then, at night, all the spirits come out to party.” O’Connor notes the song was inspired by the films of Hayao Miyazaki, reflecting on the “tough, cyclical relationship between work and play, which is something Miyazaki seems to embody: a hard-nosed work ethic that produces the most whimsical things imaginable.”
The accompanying animated video, directed by frequent collaborator Louis Roe, beautifully extends this theme. It centres the band members on a “timeless journey,” cleverly incorporating visual motifs from the album’s previous videos for “Silver Cup” (shared here), and “Huey.” Butterflies and geometric shapes float through the narrative, tying the album’s visual universe together. Roe explains the video pays homage to the band’s evolution and “the kind of growth that emerges from sustained practice.”
“Days” joins previous singles “Last Laugh,” “Silver Cup”, and “Huey” in mapping the emotional landscape of You Won’t Remember This — an album exploring memory, transformation, and the fragile magic that connects us.
