Collaborators and Fuubutsushi bandmates M. Sage and Patrick Shiroishi have announced a joint US tour this autumn, celebrating the release of a new collaborative single, “Tender of Land (Patrick’s Version).” The track is a soulful reinterpretation of a song from Sage’s forthcoming album, Tender / Wading, set for release on September 26, 2025 (RVNG Intl.).
On this new version, the ubiquitous multi-instrumentalist Patrick Shiroishi reimagines Sage’s composition, transforming its free-range structure into a languid, contemplative jazz ballad. Shiroishi’s signature saxophone work explores and expands upon the original’s textures, culminating in a satisfying exhale that breathes new life into the piece.
The single originates from M. Sage’s upcoming solo effort, Tender / Wading. Recorded in Colorado after Sage’s return to his homeland, the album was primarily constructed on piano and clarinet, later layered with guitar, modular synthesizer, and field recordings from his property. It’s a serene, sweeping vision that explores nature, radical softness, and the feeling of coming home to a place that has changed. Sage describes the album’s sound as a form of “contemplative electro-acoustic barn jazz,” drawing inspiration from his new life stewarding a couple of acres with his family.
The new album follows Sage’s acclaimed 2023 RVNG Intl. debut, Paradise Crick, and continues his idiosyncratic journey through experimental soundscapes. Tender / Wading synthesizes studio experimentation with a sharpened ear for melody, reflecting Sage’s personal and artistic growth.
The duo’s tour spans the US east and west coasts this fall, kicking off shortly after the album’s release.
