Colombian-born, US-based artist Lucrecia Dalt has released “caes,” the third single from her forthcoming album, A Danger to Ourselves, set for release on September 5, 2025, via RVNG Intl. The track, a powerful collaboration with Mexican singer and sound artist Camille Mandoki, is a stark and intense exploration of raw human emotion.
“caes” thunders with a commanding vocal presence from Dalt, immediately confronting the listener. Mandoki’s deep, resolute chorus vocals cut through a landscape of swirling dissonance and textured, weight-bearing percussion. The powerful drum work is provided by Alex Lazaro, Dalt’s collaborator on her 2022 breakthrough, ¡Ay!, who fractures the groove to create pockets of gripping tension.
“Musically, I wanted to hint at a slowed-down and diluted dembow, but with a melodic energy that felt ancient,” Dalt explains. She notes the track poetically examines the legacy of a life through the lens of tragedy, citing figures like Ana Mendieta and Evelyn McHale as influences.
The accompanying video, filmed between Dalt’s new home in the Southwestern US and Mandoki’s base in Mexico City, visually interprets the song’s theme of surrender. “It is in the act of surrendering oneself to falling that the total, the sublime, enters?” Dalt cryptically offers.
A Danger to Ourselves marks a significant shift for Dalt, moving away from the fictional narratives of her recent work towards a place of fearless emotional sincerity. The album foregrounds her formidable voice against a backdrop of lush acoustic orchestration, collaged percussion, and an esteemed cast of collaborators including David Sylvian and Juana Molina. Stripping back to an unfiltered reflection on the complexities of human connection, the record promises to be Dalt’s most intimate and sonically radiant work to date.
