Italian sound artist and composer Luca Formentini has announced the forthcoming release of I Am Ghosts, a definitive collection of his deeply personal ‘Ghosts’ series. Released on 10th October via the curated art label Curious Music, the album gathers works previously issued as digital EPs, celebrating Formentini’s explorations in ambient, electro-acoustic, and experimental music.
A composer, environmental activist, and winemaker, Formentini crafts soundscapes that suggest rather than dictate, inviting the listener into a world of introspection. Influenced by a diverse range of mentors from Derek Bailey to Jon Hassell, his music defies easy categorisation. Evocative ambient moments build tension, angular passages turn poetic, and haunting textures dissolve into silence, often within a single piece. To accompany the announcement, Formentini has shared a new single, offering a first glimpse into the collected work.
The Ghosts series was shaped by spontaneous, organic processes, mirroring the quiet, instinctive forces of the natural world. Formentini’s compositions explore themes of identity, absence, and presence, reflecting on how much of our lives are affected by unseen or barely perceived forces—the “ghosts” of the title. His method involves heavily processed guitar, field recordings, and custom-built instruments, sculpting immersive and emotionally resonant sound environments.
I Am Ghosts will be released on 180g crystal clear double vinyl, featuring artwork by acclaimed visual artist Petulia Mattioli that mirrors the music’s sensitivity to memory and fragmentation.
An expanded digital collection, Box of Ghosts, will be released simultaneously. It includes all four EPs, bonus tracks, and new binaural and immersive Dolby Atmos mixes, created in collaboration with fellow sound artist Robert Rich, which extend the album’s ethos into new dimensional territories.
