Acclaimed singer-songwriter Josh Ritter has unveiled ‘Truth Is A Dimension (Both Invisible And Blinding),’ the contemplative and atmospheric new single from his forthcoming album, I Believe In You, My Honeydew, slated for release on September 12 via Thirty Tigers.
The new song, which Ritter reveals came to him in a “daydream of a night drive through the desert,” is a sprawling, meditative piece that finds the artist grappling with cosmic truths under a starlit sky.
Of the track, Ritter shares, “I don’t remember writing this song. I hardly ever do. I remember beginning with the daydream of a night drive through the desert. I arrived at a lookout and, here, looking up at the stars from the parking lot of my mind, I caught a glimpse of something thoroughly unexpected. TRUTH revealed itself to me for an instant. The song was done when I woke up from the daydream. I recorded this song in one take. Thanks to Sam Kassirer for realizing that it was the one, and to Rich Hinman for the glorious solo. I released this song previously on an EP, lest something should happen to me and it be forgotten. Now, I’m doing my best to make sure that it won’t.”
An accompanying lyric video, featuring Ritter’s own paintings, is also available.
I Believe In You, My Honeydew marks Ritter’s thirteenth studio album and sees him once again collaborating with producer Sam Kassirer and his esteemed Royal City Band. The ten-track album follows his 2024 mini-album, co-produced with jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, Heaven, or Someplace as Nice, and his critically acclaimed 2023 full-length, Spectral Lines. The album’s first single, ‘You Won’t Dig My Grave,’ was released last month.
In support of the new record, Ritter has announced an autumn tour, including newly added solo performances at Los Angeles’ Masonic Lodge, two nights at Portland’s The Old Church, and a show at Seattle’s St. Mark’s Cathedral. A portion of the proceeds from pre-sale tickets sold through his website will be donated to the Immigrant Defence Project.
For over two decades, the Idaho native has been celebrated for his literary songwriting and has earned praise from peers like Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Beyond his musical pursuits, Ritter is also a best-selling author, with the film rights for his 2021 novel, The Great Glorious Goddamn of It All, recently optioned for development.
