Micah P. Hinson has announced his forthcoming new album, ‘The Tomorrow Man,’ releasing on October 31st via Ponderosa Music, which hints at a new chapter in his already storied 25-year career.
Preceding the album is the compelling new single, ‘Oh, Sleepyhead’. The track was born from an intense moment of inner change, and is a powerful declaration of detachment from a suffocating reality and the difficult yet necessary journey towards freedom. Musically, the track also marks a departure from Hinson’s traditional introspective style, largely thanks to the vibrant inclusion of the Benevento orchestra, led by Raffaele Tiseo which infuses the song with a dynamic larger sound, while Hinson’s authentic lyrics urge listeners to reflect on the courage required to abandon what no longer serves them.
As Hinson himself puts it, “When I wrote this song, my life was changing drastically, and day by day. The things I held dear, and the things that held me dear, were changing. The things I once held close were now seen as hindrances. The love I once felt had turned to something more akin to control. They were strange times, and times that could only hold me hostage for so long. This song represents the freedom of finding a new day, a new way to live, and the pain of leaving old lives behind. We can only be prisoner of our own lives if we allow it, but, yes, i know, as most things in life- change comes with a price and freedom comes with consequences.”
The album was recorded in Northern Italy with producer Alessandro “Asso” Stefana (PJ Harvey/Mike Patton). Talking about the album, Hinson says, “I have been searching for these songs my entire life. I’ve been on a lifelong voyage to find the perfect place where truth and understanding live, and thrive, in the forefront of my mind and my songs. I have found this place and will be chasing this beast til my last days.’
The album promises to be a significant addition to Hinson’s already well-respected discography, underpinning his position as one of the alt-folk scene’s most innovative voices.
