Indie-folk musician Jeremy Tuplin is set to release his new album, ‘Planet Heaven’, in mid-October via Trapped Animal Records. The first single from the album, ‘Pigeon Song’, is out now, accompanied by a video featuring Dominic Silvani (also a guest vocalist on the album).
‘Pigeon Song’ is a jangly indie-pop tune with lyrics celebrating love and nature while ridiculing hatred and divisive rhetoric. Tuplin describes the song as “an impulse to tie together various negative ideas infiltrating the world’s collective awareness, and dispel them with something pure and beautiful.” The track features Kerry Devine (The Baby Seals) on backing vocals, Samuel Nicholson on lead guitar, and Miles Hobbs on bass.
‘Planet Heaven’ marks a departure from Tuplin’s character-based storytelling, with the songs being more direct and personal. Two themes emerged during the writing process: the fleeting nature of all things and the beauty of Planet Earth. Tuplin states that the album has “a kind of soft defiance” and celebrates the natural world as “a quiet rebellion against destruction and malevolence.”
The album was recorded primarily at home using a modest setup, with additional recordings taking place in the home studios of contributing musicians. ‘Planet Heaven’ also features guest vocals from Kerry Devine, heka, Dominic Silvani, Dana Gavanski, and Adrian Crowley. This is Tuplin’s first foray into fully DIY recording, which also finds him using field recordings that he made of birds, ocean waves, and rainfall to enhance the album’s natural grounding.
