Oslo-based drummer, composer, producer and bandleader, Gard Nilssen, has expanded his Acoustic Unity band with saxophonists Signe Emmeluth and Kjetil Møster for their new album, Great Intentions, on Action Jazz. Alongside the two new players, the regular players of one of the most highly respected jazz trios in Europe are André Roligheten on tenor, soprano and bass saxophone, bass clarinet, flute, percussion, Petter Eldh on double bass and percussion, and Gard on drums, percussion and gongs.
Their powerful first single, Ostronology, is a hommage to their double bassist, and is out now:
Petter Eldh plays bass.
Petter loves Oysters.
Petter also loves Charlie Parker.
Oysters in Swedish is Ostron.
Ostronology is our hommage to Petter.
The magic of this new combination is clear from the outset.
Release notes: In the fall of 2024, the quintet travelled to Ocean Sound Studio on the remote Norwegian west coast and out into the wide open waters, both geographically and musically.
The result is a surplus project of a jazz album, which seriously pushes boundaries and expands the possibilities of music, packed with both harmony and dissonance.
The album also features special guest Jonas Alaska on vocals and guitar.
Action Jazz are also releasing Jørgen Træen and Stein Urheim‘s forthcoming album, Galant Galakse.
