An interdisciplinary artist and practitioner of animistic, earth-reverent skills and philosophies, residing on the unceded Esselen tribal lands now known as Big Sur, California, Fletcher Tucker has announced Kin, his latest full-length offering, due August 15th via Gnome Life Records (founded by Tucker) and Adagio 830 (EU).
Tucker’s sonic palette remains distinctly organic, built upon a foundation of “breathing” instruments: Svensk säckpipa (Swedish bagpipes), pump organ, an array of flutes, and Mellotron tapes. Over these deeply resonant textures, his chanted, animistic verse unfurls, aiming, as the press release states, to “exhale enchantment back into the living world.”
The album boasts an impressive list of collaborators, lending their unique energies to Tucker’s vision, including Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Mariam Wallentin (Fire! Orchestra, Mariam the Believer), Chuck Johnson (who also handled mixing and mastering), Sean Smith (LFZ), and Spencer Owen.
Accompanying the announcement is the lead single, “A Candle.” Born from a fleeting notebook scribble—”flute pulse”—the track unfurled with an almost preternatural ease. Tucker’s bamboo flute and Swedish bagpipes weave through layers of melodeon and percussion, grounded by Smith’s heavy bass riffs and elevated by Wallentin’s incomparable vocal warmth. It’s a compelling first glimpse into Kin‘s deep, mysterious currents.
Fletcher Tucker will be playing a series of Kin album release shows at community spaces supporting the esoteric underground throughout California this August. See the list of dates below.
