Earlier this month, Cory Hanson announced his new album, I Love People (July 25th, Drag City), and shared Bird on a Swing. His latest single turns to the “bard of the Big Rotten Apple”, Lou Reed.
Hanson’s lyrics, delivered in haiku-like images – “You were a prince and a fighter / and you were a tai chi master,” form a tender elegy for Reed, an artist known for his wit, laughter, and affection for humanity.
As previously mentioned, the album features the same tight-knit ensemble responsible for last year’s Vertigo: Robbie Cody on co-production duties, Evan Backer anchoring the low end and arranging strings and horns, Evan Burrows holding down the rhythm section, and Cory himself handling piano, guitars, vocals, and songwriting. The sax ties in beautifully to the NYC vibes here.
“I Love People”, available on LP/CS/CD/Digital on July 25, 2025, from Drag City.
