BC Camplight has unveiled a powerful new video for A Sober Conversation, the title track of his forthcoming album set for release on June 27th via Bella Union.
Following the acclaimed singles “Two Legged Dog,” featuring Abigail Morris of The Last Dinner Party, and “Where You Taking My Baby?”, the video for “A Sober Conversation” provides a visceral look into the album’s core themes.
The deceivingly upbeat track soundtracks a heated internal conflict and a pivotal moment for frontman Brian Christinzio, who has been candid about his struggles. The bridge’s chant, “now’s the time for a sober conversation,” marks his readiness to confront a painful childhood history of abuse and his past substance abuse. “I think we all reach a point in our lives where we can no longer run from ourselves or our pasts,” Christinzio explains. “The talk was dark and disturbing, but genuine and life-changing. This song is that sober conversation.”
“I had spent 30 years being terrified to open that door, and afraid of the price I’d pay once I had. I’ve opened the door. To some extent, this album is what was on the other side. I hope it helps me but this album is also for everyone that is having trouble finding their bravery, finding themselves.”
The video was filmed at Derwent Valley in the Peak District.
A Sober Conversation is described as Christinzio’s most revealing record yet, a quasi-concept album documenting his journey toward sobriety and confronting long-suppressed trauma. It follows his 2023 Top 40 album, The Last Rotation Of Earth, which earned widespread critical acclaim.
The new record sees the virtuoso songwriter and pianist at the height of his powers, weaving intricate melodies with ruthless, tragic-comic lyrical honesty. Fans can experience the new material live later this year, with a major tour culminating in his biggest headline shows to date at London’s Roundhouse and Manchester’s O2 Apollo.
