Our latest Monday Morning Brew playlist featured The Vernon Spring, the solo project of British composer and producer Sam Beste, and a track from his 2021 album A Place Over Woods.
On May 9th, 2025 he will be releasing Under a Familiar Sun via RVNG Intl. The album looks inward towards dimensions of family devotion and outwards towards a growing need for global responsibility in an age of growing uncertainty. Musically, it is described as an evolutionary leap where “Beste’s stunning compositions illuminate a graceful and deliberate approach to piano, accented by brave vocal collaborations, spoken word, and a holistic fusion of electronic and acoustic instrumentation.”
This evolvement is visually marked by striking cover artwork, created by interdisciplinary artist Eric Timothy Carlson, known for his collages, paintings, publications, installations, and moving image works. Carlson also created the two visuals for the album’s first single, Requiem for Reem, which is backed with The Breadline, a piece centred around a poem from Max Porter, in which Porter incants a call to political consciousness in light of shattered principles. “We might unsound this curse … Lend me your spirit. In Pieces.”
The Vernon Spring’s Under a Familiar Sun will be released on vinyl, Japanese import CD, and digital editions on May 9, 2025 via RVNG Intl., OPIA, and Inpartmaint.
