Australian duo Mess Esque, featuring Mick Turner (Dirty Three) and Helen Franzmann (McKisko), have shared their new single ‘Let Me Know You’ and accompanying music video by Denny Ryan. Their self-titled 2021 debut featured Marty Brown and Jim White on drums across its six tracks but on their new single, there’s not a drum to be heard – as Drag City say. With just keyboards twinkling alongside Helen’s dreamy ruminative vocals, comparisons to the avant pop of Tenniscoats seem all the more relevant here…and that’s a good thing in our books.
Let Me Know You is taken from their new album Jay Marie, Comfort Me (March 28th on Drag City). Along with Keeley Young and Kishore Ryan from the live band, the album features cellist Stephanie Arnold and a couple of Australia’s living legends of percussion: Bree van Reyk (whose 2022 album Superclusters is a beautiful monster!) and Mick’s ol’ Dirty Three partner in crime, Jim White. UK and European live dates to be announced soon.
