Following last year’s release of her debut album Vou Ficar Neste Quadrado, Lisbon-based artist and multi-instrumentalist Ana Lua Caiano is to make her first-ever UK performance at La Linea – The London Latin Music Festival (Tuesday 22 April – Monday 5 May 2025).
In his review of Vou Ficar Neste Quadrado, the debut album of Lisbon-based artist and multi-instrumentalist Ana Lua Caiano, Thomas Blake noted how the unbridled creativity she displayed throughout that album, which musically incorporates Portuguese music traditions, layered vocals, synthesizers, insistent beats and field recordings, was set to be Ana Lua Caiano’s calling card. This unbridled creativity also extends to her music videos, as shown below with O Bicho Anda Por Aí a track that Blake highlighted:
There is a rhythmic urgency to O Bicho Anda Por Aí…that owes as much to the dark post-club hedonism of the Mediterranean dance scene as to the intellectual side of avant-pop. Here and throughout the production is clipped, bracing. It sounds almost stylised, but it is a new style, invented by Caiano, which means there is an uncanny element at work here too. She conjures something of the glitchy nighttime tremors of trip-hop, but wound up to a giddier tempo and firing off in unexpected directions.

Vou Ficar Neste Quadrado was in also one of our Albums of the Year.

Ana Lua Caiano: “I’ve been to London a couple of times but this will be my first time playing in London and I couldn’t be more excited to start this journey at La Linea, an amazing festival where I’ll be surrounded by incredible artists. I’ll be playing alone on stage with the help of a loop station and I’ll bring to the festival influences of the traditional Portuguese music mixed with electronic and alternative music influences.”
