Following yesterday’s review of Cold Blows the Rain, the new eight-song collection from experimental musician Bridget Hayden (alongside The Apparitions – Sam McLoughlin and Dan Bridgewood-Hill), she has today shared an accompanying music video for Factory Girl, on which KLOF’s Gareth Thompson notes: “Adapting just three verses, Hayden chooses to leave Factory Girl hanging on a romantic thread…”
This traditional folk ballad has been covered by many, including Suzzy Roche & Lucy Wainwright Roche (which premiered on KLOF) and Lisa O’Neill with Radie Peat.
As with Bridget’s previous videos for She Moved Through the Fair and Lovely on the Water , archive footage has been used to striking effect. The video was ‘constructed’ by Josef Pugh using archive clips from 1904 and 1956.
“It’s an album as distinct and vivid as its characters are dark and illusory… like a meeting of June Tabor, Laura Cannell and Alison Cotton.”
