In October, Tunng announced their eighth studio album, Love You All Over Again (out on January 24th on Full Time Hobby). The new album marks the twentieth anniversary of This is Tunng… Mother’s Daughter and Other Songs, the pagan-folktronica debut. Closing in on that date, the video for their new single ‘Everything Else‘ compiles footage from 20 years of writing, performing and touring together, culminating in a heartfelt, nostalgia-heavy watch that perfectly matches the essence of the song.
With polyrhythmic folk guitars in 5/4 and 4/4, piano chords in 6/4, subtly off-kilter beats, ‘Everything Else’ “really should be a complete mess – but somehow is a magical meld”, says the band’s Mike Lindsay. “This track actually started out as a guitar part that Ash sent me which he’d written in response to a video of me and Phil [Winter] jamming on machines the first day in the studio. The jam never became anything, but that guitar part inspired this whole track”, he continues. “When Sam [Genders] came to the studio, he started writing lyrics, as he does so immediately and so brilliantly”.
