This latest playlist (listen links below) features releases by some of my favourite Irish artist releases from the past year and more. It kicks off with DUG, featuring Jonny Pickett from California and Lorkin O’Reilly, who, after living in NY for a decade and performing as a solo artist, returned to Dublin in 2022.
KLOF Mag’s much-missed David Morrison, who sadly passed away in 2023, introduced me to Lorkin’s music and selected his 2021 album Marriage Material as one of his Top 10 albums of 2021.
I instantly fell for this collaboration with Pickett, which has only resulted in two singles to date…but I never tire of hearing Jubilee; here’s a lovely session they did for the good folks at GemsOnVHS:
Not all the artists in the new playlist are Irish, nor are all the tracks releases from the past year. As usual, the music meanders, sparked by links and memories that lead to other inclusions, among which you’ll hear Alasdair Roberts playing a song from his 2017 album Pangs – described at the time by KLOF’s Thomas Blake as a collection of songs that are tighter and more incisive than practically anything else in Alasdair Roberts’ massive back catalogue. There’s also, to me at least, a nice contrast between Alasdair’s band and The John Renbourn Group that follows.
