Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actress Fatoumata Diawara has shared a new video for ‘Blues’ featuring world-renowned pianist Roberto Fonseca, who is known for his fusion of Latin jazz, urban music and African rhythms. In the accompanying notes, it says that the song could have been called “aw ni ce!” or thank you in bambara.
Fatoumata calls on the djinn spirits, protectors of our family, community and country to thank them for their protection. The song featured on Fatoumata’s recent critically acclaimed album London Ko, which features a dazzling arrangement of Wassoulou traditions and international influences from a diverse range of collaborators, including Damon Albarn, the above-mentioned Roberto Fonseca, Angie Stone and more.
Fatoumata Diawara is on a world tour and plays the Cheltenham Jazz Festival on May 5th. Full dates here: https://www.bandsintown.com/a/947956-fatoumata-diawara?came_from=257
