The music of Bernese cosmic explorers Deserto Parallax occupies a folk noir world of dreams, infinity, and mysteries. It offers a listening experience aptly described as a multi-sensory exploration into the realms of imagination, blurring the lines between reality and the subconscious.
Founded in 2017, its members have played in various bands, including Artlu Bubble And The Dead Animal Gang. Lead singer/songwriter Maximilian Tzortzatos is well-placed to lead us into a world of tales and protest, while the band’s expansive, sweeping palette of influences ranging from early seventies rock to more folky (obscure) tunes and out-and-out cosmic are a tantalising prospect.
If you are new to their music, I can think of no better introduction than Quicksilver Daydream, their first single to feature a music video. The song is described as an abstract metaphor for the human spirit’s journey through vast landscapes, where earth and space dissolve into an ethereal experience.
Quicksilver Daydream offers an unfiltered glimpse into the world of Deserto Parallax and the interconnectedness of its players, creating an epic and enveloping soundscape that is truly captivating. Just like a spectacular sunset that fills the entire field of vision, the music draws the listener into a dreamscape of shimmering tones and minimalist cadences, showcasing the powerful synergy at play.
The creative video director is LA-based Christoph Gabathuler, and the video is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. It perfectly captures the sonic dreamscape of Quicksilver Daydream and animation throughout is exceptional, presenting a world that lies somewhere between a Cosmic Americana and a Noirish Twilight Zone.
The song is taken from their forthcoming album Cosmic Library, out on Friday, May 10th.
