Well, if ‘Old Fashioned‘ means favouring the past, in Kyle Andrews’s case, that’s turned out to be no bad thing. In 2006, he released his debut album, Amos in Ohio, a blend of electro-pop and acoustic bedroom rock, which found a lot of traction with a growing fanbase across the internet and support from the likes of NPR. In making his sixth studio album, The Whims of a Manic Moon, due for release on May 24th, Andrews returned to those simpler days, seeking comfort and a purer expression. His lead single suggests he’s chosen the right path.
Andrews shared:
The Whims of a Manic Moon is my 6th full-length album, written and recorded over 12 days. I completed each song in sequence in a stream of consciousness. It’s a love letter to friends and family and an effort to decompartmentalize my ambivalent inner narrative. Allowing myself to meditate freely in all the glimmering fragments brought me great comfort. Sonically, this record shares some characteristics with my first album, “Amos In Ohio,” and feels like a return to a more simple and pure expression. It’s been a much-needed exercise in self-acceptance. So I offer it up, flaws and all, in case you might like this sort of thing. Thank you.
