Montreal fiddler Alexis Chartrand, a well-known player on the Quebec traditional music scene, has joined forces with multi-instrumentalist Cédric Dind-Lavoie for their new album Au Chemin 4, out on 15th March.
Cédric Dind-Lavoie has previously featured in KLOF Mag’s Folk Show (Folk Show: Episode 122), in which we featured a track from his remarkable Archives album (via Corne de brume, 2021), on which the composer brings to life archival recordings of French-Canadian people from the 1940s and 50s.
This new album, while based upon Québécois and Acadian traditional melodies, has a similar contemporary feel and sound, featuring just baroque violin and upright piano. Two tracks have been shared to date, both of which are accompanied by the videos below.
I’m sure that those of you who enjoy the music of The Gloaming or Martin Hayes‘ The Common Ground Ensemble will find equal pleasure in this beautiful music. The playing is delicately nuanced whilst managing to sound both contemporary and traditional at once.
